30 Day Emotional Eating Journal Challenge

30 Day Emotional Eating Journal Challenge

Emotional eating is SUCH a common issue with many of the clients I deal with.  Anytime we’re using any substance to alter our moods… whether it be alcohol, drugs, or food… we are just suppressing those emotions.  We have to fully experience those emotions, whether good or bad – in order for them to be released and not impact our health negatively.

Why don’t we?  Emotions are inconvenient.  Negative emotions are not fun to experience.  We want them to go away.  We’re especially taught not to reveal them.  There are so many ways of numbing them… having a glass or two of wine. Shopping.  TV.  Food.  But if we allow ourselves to get in touch with them and explore what they’re trying to tell us, we learn a LOT about ourselves and improve our health.

What happens when we numb them?  We don’t get the important message of what the are really trying to tell us.  All emotions, even negative ones, are our body’s way of telling us we need to pay attention!  And really, it’s the meaning we attach to the emotions that makes them negative.  All emotions are truly just neutral.  Choose to look at all emotions as positive.  As CLUES from the universe telling you what you need to do to course-correct.

What happens when we numb them repeatedly over time?  If you believe that we are truly energetic beings, you know that thoughts and emotions are forms of energy.  Those negative feelings start to impact the energy of your cells.  If you don’t deal with them, those cells can start to present themselves in inflammation, stomach issues, then eventually disease.  Eventually, they can even lead to disease.

What to do about it? First, become AWARE of your emotions. Focus on the emotion for 90 seconds.  Meditate on it.  Ask  yourself where that emotion is coming from, and what it is trying to tell you.  Often, that’s all it will take to make the emotion pass. We need the energy of emotion to move THROUGH us.  Blocked negative energy builds up and creates DISease.  Stress-related disease.

CHOOSE to feel your emotions.  CHOOSE to feel alive.  When you get in touch with them, you feel more alive.  Next, find other more productive ways to deal with them.

  • Scream
  • Move your body
  • Listen to uplifting music
  • Call or text a friend
  • Engage in self-care
  • JOURNAL

Instead of grabbing some food, why don’t you grab a journal and get to the root of what emotions you need to be EXPERIENCING instead of numbing?   Here is a 30-Day Journaling Challenge you can try to get in touch with your true feelings.  Come join our Mindset Makeover success group on Facebook to connect with other women who are dealing with this issue.
